Dear Mr. Chisu,

I’m writing in regard to the postal lockout currently in progress and your party’s effort to handle it with bill C-6. As someone who is waiting for educational materials for a correspondence course to reach me, I am affected by the lockout, like many other Canadians. However, like many others, I think that the government’s attempts to end the issue is ham-fisted, and will result in a worse situation for the great number of people who work for Canada Post.

CUPW is not entirely blameless for the situation, I will admit, but at least their rotating, partial strikes ensured that mail still moved about the country. The over-the-top response by Canada Post management, locking out the workers, is the real reason for mail delivery being at a standstill across Canada. CUPW is willing to go back to work under the terms of their last agreement, and they are interested in continuing to work out a new agreement that allows employees to support themselves without forcing Canadians to foot the bill through greater government funding of Canada Post. However, bill C-6 spits in their faces, taking away their rights and making it harder for the employees to make a living.

As a constituent, I ask you to stop supporting C-6, and to suggest to others in your caucus to do the same. Tell Canada Post to end the lockout and allow employees to go back to work. It’s the only fair solution to this situation.

Sometimes I wonder why Britain doesn’t reorganize itself along Canadian lines, and formally become a federation of provinces with national and provincial parliaments defined constitutionally. While some parts of the UK have their own regional parliaments (Scotland, Wales, Cornwall in a manner), England herself is represented only in the UK parliament.

But when you think about it, wouldn’t it make sense to let England have its own devolved parliament as well? And why is it that the devolved parliaments exist at the pleasure of the UK parliament? It would be better to make the separation between Westminster and the devolved parliaments the same as between Ottawa and the provinces here.

Of course, not being from Britain, I can’t claim to have any real insight into how things go on there. This is just my opinion as an uneducated outsider.
